Wild Olive Branches

But if some of the branches were broken off and you—being a wild olive—were grafted in among them and became a partaker of the root of the olive tree with its richness, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you who support the root but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” True enough. They were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear—for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you. Notice then the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell; but God’s kindness toward you, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you too will be cut off! — Romans 11:17-22 TLV

Is the Church Guilty of Misappropriating Scripture?

South Africans are coming together to pray for our nation later this month. This is what all believers are called to do continually. Pray for those in power.

Yet the church runs the real risk of being greatly disappointed in proclaiming scripture that in their context are for Israel. There may be principles involved – but to claim God will do for South Africa or America what He has promised Israel is not wise.

These Scriptures are being banded about as some type of mantra. I hear of them continually being misapplied to our country by the very men who should know better. Prayer is critical for our future. But let’s pray as the LORD taught believers in Yeshua to pray. Not claim verses applicable to Israel and manipulate them.

“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people, if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.”
‭‭- 2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:13-15

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
‭‭- Jeremiah‬ ‭29:11-13

“Who has heard such a thing?
Who has seen such things?
Shall a land be born in one day?
Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment?

For as soon as Zion was in labor she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?” says the Lord; “shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb?” says your God.

“Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her;”
– Isaiah‬ ‭66:8-10‬

These verses hold huge significance for Israel. – not the church. Let’s us not continue to rob the Jewish people of that which is rightfully theirs.
