Wild Olive Branches

But if some of the branches were broken off and you—being a wild olive—were grafted in among them and became a partaker of the root of the olive tree with its richness, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you who support the root but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” True enough. They were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but fear—for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you. Notice then the kindness and severity of God: severity toward those who fell; but God’s kindness toward you, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you too will be cut off! — Romans 11:17-22 TLV

Why Do You Not Hear?

“Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word.”
‭‭- Yeshua in John‬ ‭8:43‬ ‭

The word here for “not understand” is lalian – literally “Why do My words have no meaning?”

Yeshua often spoke giving warning to those He was addressing, saying, “He who has an ear let him hear.” The intimation was not many would hear. He was simple speaking in the character of all the true prophets. Gods words were either taken lightly. Or had no meaning.

Today it is no different. One can point out obvious and very dangerous errors in various teachings, yet it seems no one, or very few want to understand. Most don’t want to hear. They do not want to be corrected, they are comfortable in their ignorance.

So it is not surprising that one is forever running into the same problem in the Tanakh, OT. And in this case of Jeremiah he gives a reason for the reluctance to receive truth.

“To whom shall I speak and give warning
That they may hear?
Behold, their ears are closed
And they cannot listen.
Behold, the word of the LORD has become a reproach to them;
They have no delight in it.”
‭‭- Jeremiah‬ ‭6:10‬

The truth has become a reproach. They simply do not delight in the Word of the Lord. This is reason enough to understand where we are at in Christendom. And why many are following “another Jesus”, an issue highlighted by Paul in 2 Corinthians 11. It is all a prelude to the great falling away.
